Meet David Smith, who is with Argent Mineral Management in Ruston and has been with us for 8 1/2 years.
Q. What led you to Argent?
A. I was brought to Argent by unforeseen circumstances. From 2008-2012, I worked as a landman in North Louisiana and South Arkansas. However, in early 2012, natural gas prices dropped so low that work in the area dried up. Everyone in the oil and gas industry was heading west to Texas – oil was over $100/barrel back then. Not wanting to relocate my family, I was brought in by an acquaintance to interview at Argent. Argent was a much smaller company back then, but I remember walking through the office and recognizing some of the people that worked here – Ryan Griep, Bryon Moore and Lucius McGehee. I knew them to be men of integrity, and I immediately equated this to Argent’s culture.
Q. Why do you enjoy working at Argent?
A. There are many reasons I enjoy working at Argent, but what I enjoy most is being part of a company that looks for opportunities to bless others. Whether it’s our clients, our colleagues, or our communities, the people at Argent continually look for ways to make a meaningful impact. For example, earlier this year, each employee was given an extra stipend on their paycheck and encouraged to use that gift to bless folks in need in their respective communities. The stories across our company footprint were inspiring and reinforce why I enjoy working at Argent.
Q. Why does the company mean to you?
A. Argent is unlike any place I’ve worked before. Humble confidence is truly at the core of how this company does business. I have been afforded many great opportunities during my time with Argent; however, the people here are what makes Argent special – I have found this to be true across our many markets. I am thankful to be part of this team.
Q. What has been your proudest moment at Argent?
A. Beating out Reid Harrell and Nicole Jacobsen-Nally for the 2018 Argent Fantasy Football Championship.
Q. What is your favorite quote?
A. “God expects me to expect Him to do the impossible.” -Unknown
Q. If you could have any other job for one day, what would it be?
A. General Manager of the Boston Red Sox.
