Lucius McGehee Jr.
Executive Vice President, Argent Advisors, Ruston
1| Which nonprofit are you passionate about serving?
Boy and Girls Clubs of North Louisiana & The Health Hut Both are instrumental in serving the underserved in our community.
History: (BGCOFNL) The Boy and Girls Clubs provide youth in North Louisiana a safe, supervised environment where they can develop into positive and productive members of society click here for more information
History: The Health Hut serves the medical needs for the uninsured adult population in Lincoln Parish click here for more information.
2| What motivates you to give back to the community?
It’s pure and simple: Everyone has a stake in their community. For a community to succeed, every person in the community must have the opportunity to succeed. Education and medical care can be the biggest challenges for success. That’s why I am involved with these two organizations.
3| What do you do when you volunteer?
My role is mainly in leadership and fundraising, but seeing the lights come on for a child when reading, seeing a sincere smile of gratitude when passing out meals during the pandemic, those are the things that keep me coming back.
4| How would you encourage others to get involved in their community?
This is very simple for me. We can be part of the problem in our communities, or we can be part of the solution. You don’t have to look far to see division and decay. Our actions will contribute to that division and decay, or our actions will contribute to unity and renewal. There really is no middle ground. We are all connected.
5| In one sentence, can you explain why you donate your time to this organization.
To move the needle for opportunity for each person in my community.
6| What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering?
Most look at volunteering as sacrifice. Those that volunteer know it’s actually an investment. When you truly devote yourself to the vision of the organization and the people it serves, you receive far more than you put in. Find the place you are passionate about and find the organization that is positively influencing it. Devote yourself to what they are doing and who that are doing it for. It’s the only surefire positive return I can guarantee.
