2| How long have you been volunteering?
I’ve been involved with the pack for 5 years with my son, and this year, I took the role of popcorn Kernel.
3| What motivates you to give back to the community?
I was motivated to be involved because the BSOA organization is such a great organization for young boys/ young men to learn some fantastic life skills, help them stay on the right path as they grow up and watch the development of lifelong friendships.
4| What do you do when you volunteer?
My role as Kernel was to order all popcorn, set up and organize all shows and sells (selling outside of Kroger’s to people entering and exiting), teach and motivate the boys to sell popcorn and learn how to handle success as well as rejection from potential customers. Lastly, I managed all money transactions and banking funds and delivered final orders.
5| How would you encourage others to get involved in their community?
I think helping in any way you can, can be very fulfilling. Use your strengths to help someone else.
6| Explain why you donate your time to volunteer.
I wanted to be the popcorn Kernel to build our packs bank account up with a big push for popcorn sales, which is how we have money to do the activities the boys do throughout the year. We had a very successful selling season and ended up #1 in the district, #1 in the council and #288 nationally!
7| What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering?
Go for it! You won’t be disappointed to help someone else!
