IT’S A NEW YEAR……….AGAIN!
I know…………time is flying by.
Somehow it’s 2019. Nineteen years after Y2K……when all time was supposed to stop, and everything was to crash and burn.
It didn’t.
And now we have advancements that are hard to fathom.
Electric cars that might really work this time. Self driving cars. $1200 phones……
Markets at record levels. And then crashing at record levels. And then recovering at record levels.
24 hour news cycles. Way too many college bowl games. It goes on and on.
The average person is generally lost and confused about things in the world these days. It’s hard to focus.
DON’T MAJOR IN THE MINORS
One of my good friends has mentioned this to me on frequent occasions lately.
It’s a very simple concept, if we’ll follow it. It means: ‘don’t sweat the small stuff’………’focus on what matters’……………’don’t get caught up in the noise, find the quietness’. Or something similar.
I suspect the reader understands what I’m talking about.
These days, it’s hard to filter out the constant noise, and we have a tendency to get all worked up over stuff that just really doesn’t matter.
For me, ‘Don’t Major in the Minors’ seems to be a good ‘go to’ idea. I’ll write it at the top of my calendar and look at it every day. Hopefully, it will help direct much needed focus on the important things, and not direct focus to the minor things that get in the way.
Life is complicated enough without stressing over little things that can turn into big things. The old ‘mountain out of a molehill’ thing…………let’s just not do it this year.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Take some time to focus on what you should be doing in 2019.
Is it getting out of debt?
Start a saving program?
Repair relationships?
Start anew?
Work on your retirement planning in a more focused way?
Maybe this is the year you get healthy.
Whatever it is, it needs to go to the top of the page………or the calendar………..or your list of reminders that pop up every day.
Recently, I’ve had a friend who recommended a book to me: What To Say When You Talk to Yourself.
In a few words, our brain is the most amazing computer ever. But for most, it’s been programmed with negative thoughts over the years………such as: ‘You can’t do that……..don’t do that……..you aren’t capable of doing that’.
The book’s premise is that we can reprogram our own personal computer, and fill it with positive thoughts. But you must do it every day, and you have to write it out and then verbalize it.
I’d certainly recommend the book. It’s already worked for me.
Whatever you decide on for your main thing………don’t make the minors the majors. Make it major, and make it count.
